There are 12 Indians among the honorees (five Indian citizens and eight Indian ancestries or residency). In 1913, Rabindranath Tagore bacame the first Indian citizen and the first Asian to receive the Nobel prize. Here is the list of Indian Nobel Prize winners from 1902 to 2021.
The only woman on the list of recipients is Mother Teresa. Sri Aurobindo, an Indian poet, philosopher, patriot and founder of integral yoga, was nominated for the Nobel prize in Literature in 1943 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950. However, both nominations were unsuccessful.
